The Buddha-recitation Samadhi
I went to Heaven through No-mind Samadhi,
I went to the realm of the Multiple Divine Guardians in the
Diamond Samadhi,
I went to the realm of the Bodhisattva in the Pure Land by the
Ocean-seal Samadhi.
Passing through the gate of the Great Tranqulity Samadhi, which is more
difficult than shattering a rock with an egg, I went to the Land of Light — the
realm of the Buddha.
Author's Introduction
Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk is a true
teacher of the Buddhist community. She offers Buddhists her teachings on the
Buddha through her book, The
Buddha-recitation Samadhi, a written compilation of diary entries and
descriptions of her experiences during deep meditative practice.
As the enlightenment of the Buddha
was a historic event that served to show sentient beings the path towards
freedom from transmigration, and one that established a new religion — that of
Buddhism — so too is Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk’s attainment of Buddhahood a
historic event that likewise represents a new chapter in the history of
Buddhism, and one that serves to change the flow of Buddhism into the future.
“By throwing away the notion of “I”, accumulating the virtues
and merits of Bodhisattva-practice, and being pure, one can go to the Land of
Light. If one can successfully go to the realm of Pure Land, they will not
retrogress from their state as a Bodhisattva until the end of all time. The way to become a Buddha lies in the practice of living
eternally, never being annihilated. Only when one’s body and mind become purity
itself will one be able to enter into the Great
Tranquility Samadhi.
By the absolute spiritual power and empowerment of Shakyamuni
Buddha, one’s Buddha-body, made of
the Immeasurable Light, will be bestowed to them in the Absolute
Realm. This is the truth — the everlasting fact. I verify that the Buddha
is alive. As I have discarded all that I had to discard, and cut all that I had
to cut, I have done all I had to do with this body in this lifetime.
Now and until the end of all time, I will help sentient beings
for their benefit. My only mission is that of the Bodhisattva's practice — to
help others for their benefit, and to save all sentient beings. I will uphold
this duty, willingly and responsibly.”

I Realized Who I Was
“Manjushri Bodhisattva
devoted his nine-year-old, only son to Shakyamuni Buddha, and the Buddha
confirmed the child as the son and heir of the Buddha’s Dharma.
This son is now you,
Moon Gui-Soon. You were Kasyapa, one of the Buddha’s ten major disciples at the
time of the assembly of the Vulture Peak Mountain, and the son of Shakyamuni
Buddha’s Dharma, who succeeded as the patriarchate of the Buddha.
In this life, since
completing your practice in the land of Korea and being confirmed as a Buddha,
you have become the heir of Dharma, the heir apparent of the World-Honored
One.”

This scene depicts the experiences encountered while in
Samadhi. In the scene, the Buddha is informing Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk of
who she was in her previous life.

"Thus
have I seen and heard in the Buddha-recitation Samadhi"
Following a long journey of Buddhist
practice, a great Buddhist practitioner’s diary — who has finally attained
Buddhahood in the present life — has been published and shared with the world.
This book is full of various
episodes — both agonies and delights — that she experienced while practicing
the recitation of the Buddha's name. Further, it is filled with the many
teachings she received from the numerous Buddhas, spoken to her personally in
the times she spent with them after entering deep Samadhi by virtue of the
Buddha's spiritual power.
The book is an exceptional work,
and very rare — through this book, readers will hear the Buddha's vivid
teachings, he who entered Nirvana 2,600
years ago and afterward returned to his Complete Body of Bliss (the Reward Body
Buddha). They will transcend time and space to experience surprise and joy of coming
to know the realm of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
