4 - Global ECOVIEW / Great Monk Jajae Manhyon interview

On the occasion of the Buddha's in 2552 Buddhist Era, Great
Monk Jajae Manhyon chants the real character of holy and rare Sakyamuni
Buddha who has been buried until now. He has entered samadhi of recita-
tion of a Buddha's name, personally met with Sakyamuni Buddha dwelling
in the Absolute Realm, and conversed with numerous Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas since he attained Buddhahood seven years ago. He has also
established Yongsan Buddhism and is preaching on the true Dharma of the
Buddha at Hyonji temple.

The Buddha abides in the Absolute Realm in Selflessness that transcends
existence and non-existence. He is of great kindness and great compassion. I
hope that you will be born as a new person again and take refuge in Him,
pray wishes for elimination of sinful karma that you committed in many past
lifetimes, and recite Namu Sukgamonibul, Sukgamonibul.... earnestly in a
sonorous voice. Everyone can be saved."

The Great Monk who has reached the state of samadhi through chanting a
Buddha's name prays that the karmic retribution that all sentient beings
have committed over billions of kalpas in the past will be cleared away, and
that they will be saved through Sakyamuni Buddha. At the same time, he
also emphasized that they must build up their blessingsby practicing filial
piety to one's parents who gave life and love so that his life could take root
in the world as a human.

"When Buddhas see a person devoting all filial duties to his parents, they
call him a good man, a good man! He confers an award to those people.
Filial piety is foremost among all king conducts."

The great Monk revealed that if anyone living in this world lives a life,
practicing with pure mind, sharing and giving away while keeping all duties
as a human, everyone can receive empowerment from the Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas dwelling in the Absolute Realm.

"The Buddhas abiding in the Absolute Raealm enjoys bliss of the Dharma
in deep samadhi. Meanwhile, they go down to their land to teach and save
sentient beings. Although they have attained Buddhahood, there are
Buddhas who mostly abide in the Saha-World to practice actions of a
Bodhisattva."

Manjushri, Samantabhadra, Avalokiteshvara and Ksitigarbha
Bodhisattvas are the Buddhas who practice actions of a Bodhisattva in this
Ssha World. They are running around in the Saha World for salvation of
sentient beings with costume and appearance on the head entirely different
from when they were in the Absolute Realm. As they are Buddhas who
have already attained Buddhahood though they are being called
Bodhisattvas, actions of these Bodhisattvas in the Saha World are all the
more holy and beautiful.

Even though sentient beings in the Saha World and unaware of salvation
actions of Bodhisattvas in detail, we just feel grateful for the fact that they
are manifesting themselves somewhere in the world, and it gives a great
encouragement for thosewho wre living a rough and difficult life in the
world. Whenever he has an opportunity, the Great Monk who has attained
Buddhahood, tells us that if anyone in the world wishes to receive empow-
erment from these Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, it can be realized if one prac-
tices all one's duties as a human.

"we mustlive a life, sharing with our neighbors and giving away, while
keeping ethics and morals as a human. If one takes the lead of practicing
and safeguarding the Buddha Dharma, while living a life that if consistent
both in mind and action, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will give him empower-
ment."

If one can receive empowerment from the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas who
manifest their body in the Saha World and save sentient beings, there may
be nothing that can not be achieved in the world. Likewise if anyone sets the
goal of one's life, living a human life, and wants to achieve it, he must pray
wishes for the empowerment of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, while keeping
duties as a human and maintaining his attitude of endeavoring.

Up to the present, the salvation of sentient beings and empowerment of
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have been understood as mythical stories through
Buddhist Sutras and great enlightened masters of the Buddhist Schools.
Knowing the fact that these mythical stories are being realized in the current
world that we live in, our surprise and anxiety about the boundless state of
the Buddha Dharma increases all the more. Great Monk Jajae Manhyon was
born again as a great saint who has attained Buddhahood in this world
through the earnest practice for a half of his lifetime, he preaches to sentient
beings the superior state of the Buddha Dharma, and is propagating the true
Dharma of the Buddha. His existence and actions are no other than the
aspect of Bauddhas and Bodhisattvas who have manifested their body into
the Saha World. Those who have wisdom, and merit and virtues of the good
roots will easily be able to measure not only the truth ofthe universe, and
cause and effect that the teaching of the Buddha has, but also its genuine-
ness and depth through his Dharma ralks only.

The Great Monk already preached on the state of his Buddhahood on
Buddhist Television several years ago and is letting the secrets of the uni-
verse and Buddhism known to the world one by one through
Century Buddha' s Message> pubilshed in 2005. He is planning to tell peo-
ple in the world as well as in Korea the rate realm of the Buddha Dharma
and the Buddha's teaching that any enlightened great masters have not at all
known in the past through volume two of
Message> to be published at the end of this year.

The holy birthplace, Hyonji Temple, where the uni-
versal energy is being poured from the Absolute
Realm.

Having manifested his body into the Ssha World in the galobalization
times of the 21st century, the Great Monk is re-establishing the true Dharma
of the Buddha. This holy birthplace of Yongsan Buddhism that he has set
up is Hyonji Temple in Chuncheon. He was looking for the best site in the
country for the temple to spread the true Dharma of the Buddha in this land
and settled at the foot of Dsesung Mountain in 2000. At this superior site he
now propagates the true Dharma of the Buddha in this land together with
Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk who was Kasypap at the time of the
Assembly of the Spirit Mountain in the Ancient India. (Kasyapa at the time of the
Assembly of the Spirit Mountain in the Ancient India. (Kasyapa was one of
the Ten Noble Disciples, and the Dharma of Sakyamuni Buddha was trans-
mitted to him when the Buddha entered nirvana.)

Hyonji Temple is situated at the place where the Bukhan
River flows serenely in front and thick for-
est of pine trees are growing behind this superior site as if a large screen is set
up. It is also located at a convenient place where not only lay Buddhists who
have causal conditions with the Buddha, but also practitioners who are seek-
ing the truth of the universe, can easily drop in. When you enter the temple,
you can see st a glance that the Bukhan River flows calmly just like mother"s
milk, and the lower part of the mountain ridges displayed at the back of the
Dharma Hall gives us the feeling of peacefulness as well as purity and clean-
ness.

The Great Mook constructed a provisional building and dedicated the Main
Hall to Sakyamuni Buddha in 2005, and reveals to sentient beings in the Saha
World for the first time what profound meaning the location of Hyonji
Temple has.

"The practitioner who will attain Buddhahood, namely, one who will
become a Buddha must take universal energy as a Buddha. Sakyamuni
Buddha urged that the temple must be moved to Gangwon Province for Great
Monk Jajae Manhyon. It was the time when Great Monk Gwangmyong
Manduk (the final body of Kasyapa at the time of the Spirit Mountain in
Ancient India) attained Buddhahood, having taken sufficient energy from
Amsa-dong to Bogwang-dong in Seoul. Bomyong Tathagate Buddha who
controls all dragon kings supervises "The Sutra Hall of All Buddhas' in the
Dragon Palace where all Buddhas' teachings are compiled, engraved on the
marble Sutras, and stored, well protected and safeguarded from any attack of
any non-Buddhists. This is the site that He has designated for our temple.
This is a rare place, that is, only one place in Jambudvipa where limitless and
Immeasurable Light of the Absolure Realm of the Buddha is being poured
down in the size of a pillar, and the purist energy that does not exist in this
world erupts from the earth and meets with the Buddha's Light."

Countless Buddhas and Bodhisattvas dwell at Hyonji Temple and protect
those who spread and safeguard the teaching of the Buddha ever since the two
great monks Gwangmyong Manduk and Jajae Manhyon who attained
Buddhahood, began to abide here. Great Monk Jajae Manhyon preaches lay
Buddhists and ordinary sentient beings who visit Hyonji Temple on many
happenings which have occurred in samadhi of great quiescence in detail
through the Dharma ralks twice a month.

"Normally a thousand or ten thousand of Avatamsaka holy multitudes are
now stationed here at Hyonji Temple to safeguard the (Reward Body)
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abiding in the Absolute Realm in Selflessness.
Hence this place is called Hyonji Palace. There is also Yongsan Palace in the
Spirit Mountain in India. These palces are always being safeguarded because
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas abide there. The entrance is safeguarded by the
Four Heavenly Kings. And as Hyonji Temple, Hyonji Palace is made of a
special glass tube, the inside of this place is not seen from the non-Buddhist
heaven. This a a superior place where deceased ghosts non-Buddhist heaven
maras cannot attack."

Numerous Buddhas and Bodhisattvas as well as Sakyamuni Buddha and his
left and right hand attendants, Bodhisattvas of the Main Hall are abiding at
Hyonji Temple. Whenever necessary, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the
Absolute Realm manifest. The appearance of Sakyamuni Buddha and two
Bodhisattvas in the Main Hall of Hyonji Temple have two eyes open glaringly
and the shaved head that one can see not only in Korea, but also at any other
temples in the world.

"The shaved images of the Buddhas in our temple are the appearances of
the Complete Body of Bliss possessing thirty-two bodily signs and made of
Immeasurable Light When the Buddha entered complete nirvana, he returned
to his own Buddha Body (the Reward Body) in the Absolute Realm, and
taught and saved the sentient beings visiting the phenomenal world. They are
the images of the Buddha and other Buddhas abiding in the Absolute Realm
which I have personally confirmed when I entered samadhi chanting the
sacred name of a Buddha."

Sakyamuni Buddha whom the Great Monk met personally has lived for
eons as incalculable as all the atoms in the universe, but looks like he is still in
his fifties. Sakyamuni Buddha the main Buddha in the Main Hall of Hyonji
Temple has a middle-aged appearance. Looking at the appearance of the
Buddha, we can feel his vital spirit and power He looks after all sentient
beings far and wide, manifests his body wherever empowerment of the
Buddha is necessary, and stays together with sentient beings with pleasure.

On the hill overlooking the Bukhan River, construction of the Vairochana
Hall is now progressing at its height. The Great Monk plans to place the Pure
Dharma Body Vairochana Buddha the Dharma Body of Sakyamuni Buddha
as the Main Buddha in the Vairochana Hall which is expected to be dedicated
in Autunm, 2008, and also plans to set up the Tower of Prabhutaratna
Tathagata at a site below.

"The Pure Dharma Body Vairochana Buddha rakes in the Pure Dharma
Bodies of all Buddhas as a whole. The Pure Dharma Bodies of all Buddhas
are absorbed in the Pure Dharma Body Vairochana Buddha of Sakyamuni
Buddha whenever there is a big event. Therefore, Light of the Pure Dharma
Body Buddha has higher light intensity than that of the Complete Body of
Bliss, and his power iscountless and limitless because it shines over the
Threefold Great Thousand World Systems all the time."

After construction is completed, the Great Monk will personally give life to
the Buddhas of the Vairochana Hall and the Tower of Prabhutaratna
Tathagata. When life is given to them by a great practitioner who has attained
Buddhahood, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas will abide in there.
Through giving life to them, he wants to accomplish the wishes
that Yongsan Buddhism is seeking.

"By virtue of the great power of the Pure Dharma Body
Vairochana Buddha, he will pray for welfare of sentient beings in
the Saha World and peace of the world. Especially considering
that the place where Hyonji Temple is situated is north of 38th
Parallel Line, he plans to let the Temple perform its role of praying
not only for unification of South and North Korea and further
development of Korea, but also for the peace of the world, by dedi-
cating the Vairochana Hall to the Pure Dharma Body Vairochana
Buddha."

The Three Buddha Hall is situated at the breast of the hill above
the Vairochana Hall which is at the height of its construction now.
The Great Monk worships Bomyong Buddha who is one of the
Five Tathagatas, Mountain King Buddha and Stars Ruling Buddha
on his left and right, and many Bodhisattvas in the Thre Buddha
Hall."

"Bomyong Buddha stores in the Dragon Palace the Sutras of the
Buddhas containing teachings of the countless Buddhas dwelling
in the Threefold Great Thousand World Systems who have
attained Buddhahood after the very first Buddha Sakyamuni
Buddha, and also supervises countless dragon kings in the Dharma
realms of the ten directions."

Especially, the Great Monk has entered samadhi and given life
to many Buddhas and Bodhisattvas appearing on the picture hung
on the wall in the Thre Buddha Hall, and you cannot see this aspect
of the Reward Body Buddhas at other temples. Many lay
Buddhists visting Hyonji Temple pray wishes for themselves and
for those who have causal connections with them to the Three
Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the Three Buddha Hall who super-
vise the fortune of sentient beings.

One must attain the Path of a Bodhisattva
that helps him escape from transmigration by
cultivating wisdom, and merit and virtues

A great saint Greak Monk Gwangmyong Manduk who has also
attained Buddhahood besides Great Monk Jajae Manhyon abides
at Hyonji Temple in Chuncheon. Great Monk Kwangmyong
Manduk was Kasyapa as the premier disciple of the Buddha at the
time of the Spirit Mountain who succeeded the Dharma of the
Buddha through 'the three places of mind-to-mind transmission.'
On the occasion of the Buddha' s Birthday in the year of 2552
Buddhist Era, the Great Monk has issued a stanza.

Wearing all the Buddhas of the Absolute Realm on
my forehead,
disciple Gwangmyong Manduk kneels down and
bows before
the truth of the Buddha
Having endured all hardships
by rain, wind, drought, etc.,
have born abundant fruits
grain after grain
The saint who has attained Buddhahood
and completed Buddha's wisdom
id the winner among the humans
and the great man of truth in the universe
sow seed of the Dharma
to those who are cold and hungry
who live without abiding and in silence
to live a blessed life
both in this life and in that life, too
The Buddhists who took refuge in the Buddha Dharma, that is,
the great truth of the universe are blessed people as mentioned in
the stanza of Great Monk Gwangmyong Manduk. The future of a
person will be dexided by his action and mental attitude of the pre-
sent lifetime. So the future is the mirror of the present. Great
Monk Jajae Manhyon emphasizes once again that if you are a
Buddhist believing in the clear and simple truth of Buddhism, you
must live the worldly life faithfully and thoroughly in accordance
with the teachings of the Buddha.

"All karma we commit while living a life will become catalysts.
We all have to live a kind life. We must obey the Buddha and his
Dharma (teaching). We must not think of ourselvesf only and must
think of others, too. We must practice the teachings of the Buddha
on this foundation. Buddhism is to practice one's mind."

The Great Monk who has received empowerment of the Buddha
by himself through recitation of a Buddha's name stressed that one
can be awakened to the truth of the universe and birth and death
through chanting the sacred name of Sakyamuni Buddha.
However, I make it clear once again that the ultimate goal that
Buddhisrs practice does not consist in enlightening, but in escaping
from the cycle of life and death, become an arhat, and becoming a
Bodhisattva.

The Buddha has said that holy multitudes and Bodhisattvas will
be produced in the mundane world. If one lives a faithful mundane
life, recire the Buddha's name earmestly for one or two hours a day,
and, among other things, has a strong aspiration in propagating the
true Dharma, we will live a blessed life in the nest lifetime as well
as in this lifetime. If one serve a great monk who has attained
Buddhahood as one's teacher, and live by his teaching, he will not
only be freed from the wheel of life and death, but also attain
rebirth in the Western Pure Land."

The life that the Great Monk teaches and wkshes to Buddhists
does not remain in practicing. Even though he gained enlighten-
ment through practice of the mind when he was young, he was not
satisfied with his accomplishment. As he has attained Buddhahood
through practicing actions to be reborn in the Pure Land for a long
time and chanting a Buddha's name, he has a sincere desire that all
sentient beings will be reborn in the Westem Pure Land by means
of the same practice method as he had done.

'whether one is a monk who has renounced the worldly life, or a
lay Buddhist, when one practices wisdom, and merit and virtues
together by all means, practice of one's mind will be promoted
well. Spirit will be purified. It is an excellent deed to give alms to
one's poor neighbor. He will be reborn in a heaven called Heaven
of the Thirty-three gods (Dori-chon). It is great merit and virtues to
propagate the true Dharma to the people in the world. The merit
and virtues that one gains by participating in spreading the true
Dharma of the Buddha are all the more greater. He will be promot-
ed to the heaven of the holy multitudes, that is, the highest heaven,
escaping from the 54 heavens (the deva realm). Further he will
become a Pure Land Bodhisattva and can be reborn even in the
Western Pure Land."

While preaching to a lot of sentient beings not only on proper
practcing method that the Great Monk himself has learned through
practice over a half of his lifetime, but also on the proper attaitudes
ofa practitioner and the ways of building up merit and virtues, he is
devoting himself to systemize and popularize the teachings of the
Buddha that our ear demands. The teachings of the Great Monk on
the real truth of the universe and his actual actions are becoming
precious teachings anf practicing method in the religion not only
for those who have entered a practicing way to become a true prac-
bitioner, but also for all those who have a thirst for the truth of the
universe and the world.

The world of the Buddha Dharma that Sakyamuni Buddha
accomplished some 2500 years ago is being realized through the
teachings of the living Buddhas and Bodhisattvas near us and their
dhuta (selfless) practice in 2552 Buddhist Era. The teaching of the
Buddha has been born again on this land in the globalization era of
the 21st century by virtue of manifestation of Buddhas and
Bodhisattvas who have attained Buddhahood, and is also creating a
momentum in solving the task of mankind and the Hwadu (the
head phrase for meditation) of this era in our everyday life together
with all human beings from its center in the Korean peninsula.
